Redbridge Drama Centre

Redbridge Drama Centre is a member of the GB National Centre ITE (International Theatre Exchange).

The Drama Centre is to the East of London and was founded in 1973 by Drama Adviser Hugh Lovegrove. It started life in an unused former Dr Barnardo’s Headquarters in Barkingside, Ilford and in 1975 it moved into its current premises in Churchfields, South Woodford.

Redbridge Drama Centre, is the only local authority drama centre in the UK and is one of the few drama services still funded by the local council.

Throughout the year, drama officers work with local young people aged 5 – 21. They receive and develop a full professional programme throughout the year. They also have a fully functioning television studio and edit suite used by students aged 9 – 18 to produce television programmes and films, using professional cameras and techniques.

They have hosted international theatre festivals and are planning the next one in 2014.
